Trial in the Delta: the Murder of Emmett Till

Show Information

On September 20, 1955, testimony began in the murder trial of two members of Emmett Till’s lynch mob. What happened in that trial, in the weeks leading up to it and the months after would change America. Collaboraction’s original live staging of Trial in the Delta, book by Willie Round and G. Riley Mills, directed by Anthony Moseley and Dana Anderson, is drawn directly from the recently unearthed trial transcript of “The State of Mississippi vs. Roy Bryant and J.W. Milam.” The production plays like a live reenactment of the actual court proceedings in Sumner, Mississippi in 1955, with top Chicago actors, seated among the audience, taking the stand as witnesses for the defense and prosecution, including Emmett Till’s history-making mother, Mamie Till-Bradley.
